Summer Thyme - ORGANIC De Bolster (3275)
Summer thyme is a perennial kitchen herb, and makes nice tender stems with strongly fragrant leaves. Thyme is an indispensable herb in Mediterranean cuisine.
Summer Thyme is less hardy than Thyme 'German Winter'. An advantage of summer thyme is that it grows a lot smoother than Thyme 'German Winter', and the stems are therefore more tender, and a bit less woody.
Sow summer thyme indoors in March and April in pots or trays, and plant out in May in the garden or greenhouse. Keep a planting distance of 30x15 cm or 25x25 cm.
The first harvest will take place from the end of June. The following years earlier harvesting will also be possible, depending on the location; the warmer and sunnier, the earlier you can harvest. Summer thyme blooms at the beginning of the second year.
Harvest the thyme by cutting off the stems a few cm above the ground or pot.
Thyme should preferably be planted in a sunny, dry spot in your garden, with little fertilization. Thyme does not like wet feet.
