The Solanum Sessiliflorum, also known as the peach tomato or the Cocona, is native to South American river areas. The unripe, hairy fruits, which look like the naranjilla, taste like a cross between lemons and tomatoes.
The shrubs grow to a height of about 180cm. They have hairy leaves that resemble the naranjilla plant. The leaves can grow up to 45 cm long. Green-yellow flowers bloom in clusters up to 2.5 cm wide.
The fruits can be eaten raw or cooked, but it is typically not recommended to eat them raw. Instead, the fruits can be peeled and processed into jams, jellies, sauces and more.
Prefers a good drainage of the soil to thrive, and a partial shade on young plants. This is a fast grower. The first fruits can be produced from seed within the first year. Fruits grow up to 10 cm in diameter.
