Solanum Quitoense, also known as naranjilla ('small orange' - although not related to oranges), is a subtropical perennial plant from northwestern South America.

The large, elongated, heart-shaped leaves (up to +/- 45cm long) and stems of the plant are covered with short purple hairs and the plant contains many large spines that grow from the stems, branches and leaves. The leaf veins are generally deep purple in colour.

The bright orange fruits, about the size of a large cherry tomato, are covered with numerous fuzzy hairs that rub off when ripe. They have a citrus flavour, sometimes described as a combination of rhubarb and lime.

Grows to a height of about 2 meters.

The plant is said to be hardy to at least 0°C.
