Morinda citrifolia originates from Southeast Asia, but is cultivated on the Indian and Pacific subcontinent.
The tree-like shrub grows to about 3 meters in height with glossy dark green leaves of about 20 - 30cm. The flowers are white and about 1cm in diameter. The fruits have an unusual shape and can reach a diameter of about 10 - 15cm. They have a warty appearance.
Although they are edible, the fruits are almost only eaten in extreme need because of their special taste and smell.
The bark produces a red/purple dye and the roots are used to make a yellow dye. Different parts are also used by the local population as medicines.
Can reach a height of 9m under ideal conditions. Minimum temperature around 5 to 10°C.
