The essential oil, originating from South America or North Africa, is expensive as it is difficult to produce. From an economic point of view and in order to obtain an acceptable aromatic level, the essential oil is diluted (see the combined products below). The hydrolate offers us another effective opportunity to enjoy the incredible action of this aromatic plant. The aroma is sumptuous, proportional to what the essential oil offers us.
The average pH of 5.5 is close to the skin's acidic protection layer. It purifies the complexion colour of normal and mixed skin. It is used as a facial tonic and, in this case, it is more beneficial to combine it with the hydrolate of cistros.
This hydrolate of course has the same soothing properties as the essential oil. The hydrolate of verbena softens and refreshes the skin, especially sensitive skin.
It seems to have a striking affinity for the mucous membranes. It can be recommended for oral flushing after dental surgery, alone or in combination: combined with cistros if bleeding occurs, with helichrysum if swelling occurs. It can also be used for nasal rinsing in case of dehydration of the mucous membranes when the heating is too hot.
When used on its own, or in combination with fine lavender or peppermint, it is an excellent natural aftershave. The aroma with herbal and citral notes is more suitable for men.
When added to drinking water, the hydrolate has an impact on stress and anxiety. The specific character of verbena, in this case quite related to lemon balm, will bring back joy and confidence when the self-esteem is low.
It boosts the endocrine balance and digestion, with a clear affinity for the thyroid gland and pancreas.
It is an interesting solution in the case of premenstrual syndrome and to soften cramps in general. An excellent aperitif when there is a lack of appetite due to stress and emotional tension. Very good for a herbal tea in the evening to provide a peaceful and restorative sleep.
Delicious in desserts, pastries, recipes with fish and crustaceans.
