Radish Violet de Gournay TessGruun

A heirloom variety from Haute-Normandie France. Long and bulky, purple root with white flesh and sweet taste.  Elongated, cylindrical root, 20 to 30 cm long, 5 to 10 cm in diameter. Skin is purple and turns black when mature. Juicy and fragrant white flesh, productive, earlier than the long black radish. Sow in the garden from late July to mid August. Row distance approx. 30 cm.  Harvest from September and before heavy frost. Can be stored all winter in the cellar.
Like all radishes, this variety is biennial. It blooms in spring. The flower stalks can reach 1.80-2.00m in height. The flowers are white, sometimes purple.
