Green bean 'Helda' BIO De Bolster (1190)

ZPEDB1190 Green bean 'Helda' BIO De Bolster (1190)

Holly Bean 'Helda' is by far the most cultivated variety in the field. The pods are long, fairly broad and flattened. Broad beans are very productive.

Pluck through regularly (2 x a week) and remove beans that are too thick to keep the growth in. Sowing time mid May to early July, 4-5 beans per stick, distance 75 x 75 cm. 75 grams is enough for about 30 sticks.

Harvesting for French beans starts a little later than for pedigree beans. Important advantages of French beans: no problems with moulds (crop can dry up well), long harvesting period and high yield. All French beans have a nice mechanism of climbing: whether it is slanted, straight or curved, always circling and always with right turns the way up is found blindly.

The material (bamboo poles, beanpoles, ropes, etc.) that you use as a material does not really matter, but the whole must be sufficiently stable at full load. In every allotment garden you will find someone who wants to explain what is actually the best system. An old guideline, but still up to date, is to keep 8 to 10 plants per m². Sowing twice (mid May and late June) gives a good harvest spread. Grow in a sheltered place.

In greenhouse cultivation, you can also let the beans climb up along a rope; for example, you attach the rope to a horizontally drawn steel wire. This saves you having to build a construction of poles. Growing beans in the greenhouse generally gives extra yield.
