Green bean 'Neckarköningin' BIO De Bolster (1170)
Stick bean 'Neckarkönigin' is also known as bacon bean, and has long (approx. 20 cm), very fleshy pods. The pods remain tender for an extremely long time. Preferably grow the bean in a sheltered place. 75 grams is sufficient for about 30 sticks. Advice: before sowing, prick the seeds slightly with a needle. This stimulates the absorption of moisture and gives a better emergence.
Harvesting with broad beans starts a bit later than with pedigree beans. Important advantages of French beans: no problems with moulds (crop can dry up well), long harvesting period and high yield. All French beans have a beautiful way of climbing; whether it is slanted, straight or curved, always circling and always with right turns the way up is found blindly.
It doesn't matter which support material you use (bamboo poles, beanpoles, ropes, etc.) but the whole has to be sufficiently stable when fully loaded. In every allotment you will find someone who wants to explain what the 'best' system is. An old guideline, but still up to date, is to keep 8 to 10 plants per m². Sowing twice (mid May and late June) gives a good harvest spread.
In greenhouse cultivation, you can also let the beans climb up along a rope; for example, you attach the rope to a horizontally drawn steel wire. This saves you having to build a construction of poles. Growing beans in the greenhouse generally gives extra yield.
