This fairly rare species originates from the Mexican Yacatan peninsula. The fruit is approximately 4 cm long and takes the form of wrinkly pods. In a period of 100 days, the colour changes from light green to yellow, then orange and finally red.
The plants have white flowers. They grow to a size of 60 to 90 cm.
The taste is burning, but still aromatic. Scoville: +/- 200,000
