Sugar Snap 'Norli' BIO De Bolster (1300)
Sugar Snap 'Norli' is a rather small pod and is wealthy (no mesh support needed). It is a well known and much cultivated variety. Norli gets a sweeter taste in a somewhat later stage.
There are in fact no clear differences between pods and sugar snaps. The term `Sugar Snap' is used as soon as the pods have grown a little further (the seeds become visible). Height about 70 cm. At this later stage there is a distinctly sweeter taste. Row spacing 50 cm. Crop length ca. 70 cm. A little crop support makes picking easier.
Fresh pods, peas and capucins are the flavours of the vegetable garden. There are hardly any problems with diseases and pests and that makes it all the more attractive to grow these crops yourself. It is sufficient to grow them with little manure. Two main groups can be distinguished: short with a length of up to approx. 70 cm (trunk) and long types (rice types).
The trunk types can in principle be cultivated without support, but cultivation along (short) gauze or with rice wood also has advantages here: picking through is considerably easier and there are no pods on the ground.
The rice types must in any case be grown along wire netting. In the case of cultivation along gauze, a row can be sown on both sides of the gauze. A common row distance for stem types is 50 cm, sow in the row at 3 to 5 cm. In connection with mice and birds sow sufficiently deep (3 to 4 cm).
For all capuchins, peas and pods an early sowing (March/April) gives the best results; sowing in May and later gives insufficient pods and problems with mildew.
