Summer carrot Amsterdamse bak 2 - ORGANIC De Bolster (2055)
Summer carrot 'Amsterdamse Bak 2' is a beautiful, thin, cylindrical carrot with a delicious taste. The name refers to the breeding tanks in which the carrots used to be sown. It is an early summer carrot for sowing in the garden. Sow in a greenhouse, then you can start sowing in early spring.
Sow the seeds directly in the soil. Preferably on raised ridges... Make sure the soil is loosened up nicely. The finer the soil, the better the root can grow straight and long. Keep a row distance of 20 cm. Sow the seeds between your fingers in rows. When the plants emerge you thin out to a planting distance of 20x3 cm. Depending on the desired root thickness, a wider or closer planting distance can also be maintained. With a wider planting distance between the roots, the roots will grow faster and have more space to grow into thicker roots. A smaller planting distance will result in thinner carrots.
Problems with the carrot fly are best solved with insect netting; cover fairly soon after emergence. A simple framework/cage works best to keep out the carrot fly.
