Pisum sativum BIO De Bolster (1220)
Pisum sativum is a large crop and a type of rice (growing along gauze). Both the flowers and pods are purple. Only the seeds can be consumed.
Pre-sow in a pot or seedbed as early as February and plant out in March at a planting distance of 150x3 cm. You can also sow directly in the garden in March and April at the same planting distance. The harvesting period is from July to September.
Capuchins are similar to peas, i.e. only the seeds can be consumed. The most common is to consume the seeds fresh; freezing is also fine (but lightly blanched). A second possibility is to let the crop mature and use the dried seeds.
Fresh pods, peas and capucins are the flavours of the vegetable garden. There are hardly any problems with diseases and pests, which makes it all the more attractive to grow these crops yourself. It is sufficient to grow them with little manure. Two main groups can be distinguished: short with a length of up to approx. 70 cm (trunk) and long types (rice types).
The rice types must in any case be grown along gauze. When growing along gauze, a row can be sown on both sides of the gauze. A common row distance for stem types is 50 cm, sow in the row at 3 to 5 cm. In connection with mice and birds sow sufficiently deep (3 to 4 cm).
For all capuchins, peas and pods an early sowing (March/April) gives the best results; sowing in May and later gives insufficient pods and problems with mildew.
