Purslane BIO De Bolster (2030)

ZBLDB2030 Purslane BIO De Bolster (2030)

Winter purslane has few problems with diseases and pests. This type is hardy, only in dry frost the colour of the leaves becomes less beautiful and covering is desirable.

Sow outdoors in August and September. When the soil temperature is still too high, winter purslane germinates very slowly. So do not think it will not germinate too quickly. You can also pre-sow winter purslane in August and September, and plant in September and October. Because of the slow germination at high temperatures, pre-sowing indoors usually does not result in an earlier harvest. Fertilise very lightly.
The seeds are small, by mixing the seeds with fine sand it is easier to sow in plenty of space. If a sowing machine is used, mixing with sugar is a good method. Sow very shallow (1-2 mm). Handle a row distance of 20 to 25 cm. Do not sow too densely in the row! Keep the seed bed moist after sowing.

Harvest from October (when pre-sowing in August) until March (also in the winter months) by cutting the stems about 5 cm above ground level. The plant will sprout again and can produce a second and sometimes third cut. When grown outdoors it is wise to cover the plants in case of severe frost. In spring winter purslane first produces small white flowers, and can then shoot very quickly into the seed. Remove the plants in time if you do not want the plant to sow massively.

Winter purslane can be used in salad, raw vegetables or stew.

TIP: also suitable as a babyleaf (sowing period: August and September)!
